60-30-10 decorating and design rule

Very simple and so useful, the 60-30-10 decorating rule is a basic rule of the color application during interior design.

Let's define the rule before we talk about breaking them. The 60-30-10 rule implies:

About 60% of the space should be the dominant color.

Around 30% should be represented by the secondary color.

The last 10% should be for colorful accent.

This is a useful rule when designing a space using different colors. If you are trying to achieve a triadic harmony for the first time I would highly suggest using this rule as a guideline to the application of the hues.

Sometimes rules are meant to be broken, for certain design it could be 65% of a dominant color or 15% accent instead of 10%, but this overall ratio helps find a baseline.
