Complementary colour scheme

First things first, what is a complementary colour?

Complementary colors are opposite on the color wheel, for example violet - yellow, red - green, blue - orange.

Looking for design inspiration? Just spin the color wheel and see what happens.

If you are trying to create a space with a powerful color scheme a simple solution is to use the complementry harmony. When used correclty the results are stunning.

This color scheme could be use to bring life in a space that is very monochrome, with blue and orange as starting point for accent pieces and accessories would make the space feel more dynamic.

We talked about the importance of the tones and the ti

nts. The same concept applies in this color scheme.

The best example for that is if a saturated red is used with a saturated green the space could seem like a constant Christmas reminder. If you choose a very bright red I would use it with the accessories like seen in the picture below the designer uses the pure red in the drapery and in the details of the carpet that creates rhythm and repetition in the space without any sense of being overwhelmed. The wood elements again add a lot of warmth to the room even if green is a cool color the space doesn't feel cold.
